How to Locate the Reason You Were Created- Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Dear Reader,

You are welcome to this exciting column. Last month, I unveiled to you one of the avenues for locating the reason for which you were created.  I noted that you can achieve that by going directly to God, who is your manufacturer, in prayer and by seeking counsel from His Word.

Today, I will yet be speaking on another avenue, which I captioned, Looking Inwards!  This is another major way of locating the reason for your existence in life. Carry out an internal search!  Take an inventory of your life!

There is a particular thing deposited in you that will give you an indication to where you belong. But, you must be sincere with yourself to perfectly realise this. While looking inwards, one or more of the following may be a pointer to the reason for your existence:

Talents: What productive thing do you have the ability to do without stress or imitations? It is put there by God to occupy you till He comes (Luke 19:13). Every creature on the earth today has talents, gifts and endowments from God, but you as a person, have the singular responsibility of looking inwards to discover them.

God’s Word says: And unto one he gave give talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightaway took his journey (Matthew 25:15).  It is interesting to know that there is no untalented person on the surface of the earth; rather, God give gifts according to man’s several abilities.

Passion: What are you highly emotional about that give you endless zeal? The renowned Mother Theresa was not known to have heard from God, but she had enthusiasm for the helpless lepers.  Today, she has emerged as one of the few that have influenced the world.

Nehemiah also had an unquenchable passion for the afflicted in Jerusalem and the broken walls of the city. He said, “…Why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my father’s sepulchers, lieth waste, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire” (Nehemiah 2:3).  He pursued that passion and he was evidently made. As you hunt for your passion and pursue it, you also would be made.

Skill: This could be acquired through training or experience over a period of time. Therefore, what is that thing that you have been trained to do?  David, through his experience with the lion and the bear, acquired skill. Thus, he was able to defeat the uncircumcised Goliath, and eventually ascended the throne as a king (1 Samuel 17).

Over the years, I have been able to improve my teaching and writing skills, with the help of God. You, too, can work on your experience to become relevant in life.

Honest Opinions: There must be some honest views from people about you, based on your positive impact on them.  Reflect on those things and build yourself the more, in making it better.  However, you must be careful as to never allow commendations from people create pride in you.  Bear in mind that the heart of man is deceitful and desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9)!  Be cautious about this!

At God’s Instance: God, in His omnipotence, may choose to reveal to you your mission on earth, without you even asking for it.  This was the case with father Abraham, as recorded in Genesis 12:1.  Based on that revelation, Abraham’s life is still speaking today.

The effect of this mission all over the world, as revealed to God’s servant, my husband, in an 18-hour long encounter, cannot be denied today. God will reveal Himself to you also!

It is important to note that you are the primary beneficiary, if you locate your reason for existence and abide in it, in order to be relevant.  Remember that life without a bearing is a burden!

To effectively and efficiently look inwards in locating the reason for your existence, you have to be born again. You get born again by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour.  If you are set for this new birth experience, say this prayer with faith: “Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the living God. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom”.
